Recruiting Silliness

Lots of stuff to get to today, but not any time to do it. Real quick though, today is signing day for college football. And the fascination with what school will get what players has always puzzled me. Until a kid starts to actually play college football, you're largely just guessing how good they might be. Let me just give a fast example of how wrong recruiting hype can be. Back in 2002, TOSU signed one of the can't miss QB's of forever. His name was Justin Zwick. They also signed another guy who they didn't even label as a QB, they labeled him Athlete (which means the guy will probably play WR or DB in college). Zwick started a handful of games and was mediocre, at best. The other guy, who was almost an afterthought, went on to win the Heisman Trophy, and more importantly, led TOSU to 3 straight victories over Michigan. That was Troy Smith. All I'm saying is don't get too excited or down based on recruiting rankings. They're about as scientific as alchemy...

I'm out-TBFH
